Joy Mazeikas Decius
Author Joy Mazeikas Decius was inspired to write The Egg Song after being a part of the successful petitioning of her city to allow residents to have chickens in the back yard. The stories are based on the real hens she was finally able to have and what she learned about their amazing thought process and problem-solving abilities. Her goal is that The Egg Song teaches that our Creator intends all life to live in harmony in His Kingdom. People, plants and trees, animals, snake, bugs, chicken—and even the Stick Monster—should come together to flourish.
Joy is retired from the State of Oregon and is also a master gardener. The story of her “girls” and her renewable resource chicken coop was featured in the December 2011 Mother Earth News.
